DISCOVER THE “RWANDAN BEEHIVE”:

A Harmony between Nature and Beekeeping

Travel to the heart of beekeeping excellence with the “Ruche Rwandaise”, the fruit of decades of research and study into the natural habitat of bees. Our adventure began in 1980, driven by a passion for studying the natural environment of these incredible pollinators. Today, we're proud to present the Rwandan Beehive at its very best. A model that comes as close as possible to the natural homes of native bees.

Let us introduce you to the exceptional features that distinguish the Rwandan hive from other European models:

1.Dimensions Inspired by Nature The measurements of the Rwandan Hive are carefully compared with the natural habitats of native bees. We focus on preserving the ideal temperature of 36 degrees Celsius, creating the perfect haven for the colony to thrive.

2. Respect for the Queen : Our square frames and cubic volume ensure the preservation of the circular pattern of the queen's brood laying, promoting an environment where her majesty can flourish.
3.Safety against predators : The Rwandan Hive's flight hole is designed to be easily defensible, protecting the colony from predators and other unwanted pests.
4.Wood species not attacked by termites : We use a wood species that is not attacked by termites, guaranteeing the hive's durability and longevity.
5. Thickened and dried wood minimum 6 months : Our wood is carefully dried for at least 6 months. Its thickness is much greater than that of other beehive constructions, ensuring greater isolation and resistance to the harshest weather conditions.
6. Robust mounting : All parts of the hive are carefully assembled using the glue-laminated technique, reinforced with internal nails, to ensure maximum strength.
7. Standard dimensions : The Robeec beehive is designed with a single dimension of wood to reduce losses, thus avoiding unnecessary offcuts and waste.
8. Brushed-finish iron racks : The raw-iron racks are non-toxic and allow regular spacing, in harmony with the colony's biology.
9. Concrete deck and roof for maximum stability : The concrete board protects the base of the hive from damage caused by seasonal rains, and the heavy roof made of the same material ensures great stability, particularly in the event of winds that can sometimes be violent.
10. Identical cube between layers : When additional levels are added, they are of the same dimensions. This greatly facilitates frame management between brood boxes and honey supers. All levels are identical, simplifying beekeeping procedures.

The Robeec hive has been specially designed to be in harmony with Rwanda's indigenous bees, respecting their life and inner ecosystem.

Eloquent results

With the Rwandan Hive, you can witness beneficial results such as :

•Ordered constructions between the combs and in the hive,
•Reduced stress and strain for the colony,
•Reduced aggressiveness
•Reduced calorie consumption for temperature regulation,
•Less parasites,

-More brood on 2 bodies (2 levels),
•Better colony health,
•Improved hygiene through better cleaning,
-More comfortable beekeeping visits,
-Increased honey production,
-Easier transport of loaded hives,
-Prolonged longevity thanks to the quality of construction and wood used,
-And more practical beekeeping techniques.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE RWANDAN BEEHIVE

Each component of the hive is identical and interchangeable; it can serve as either a brood chamber or a honey super, and each will be filled with ten frames. Great precision is required during the construction of our hives to ensure that every element fits together with millimeter accuracy.
The hive construction workshop provides carpenters with good working conditions and ample space to work efficiently.

OUR APIARIES

We are always on the lookout for new land to rent for placing our hives, ideally in locations near forests that are more than 3 km apart to prevent bee overpopulation. Each hive is placed more than 3 meters apart from the others. This technique helps reduce stress on the bees during hive inspections and minimizes foraging drift.
